I'm Neil, a patent and trademark attorney in Toronto, Canada.
I lead the intellectual property team at Shopify.
As Associate General Counsel, Intellectual Property my role spans spans all aspects of IP.
I have supervised the drafting and prosecution of hundreds of patent applications ranging from simple mechanical devices to complex software innovations. I also oversee the filing of all Shopify trademarks and other forms of registered IP. I direct IP strategy and provide strategic advice on IP across Shopify's business.
Before I entered the world of law and intellectual property, I worked in software engineering.
